  • Asimina triloba 'KSU Benson' is a highly productive, early-bearing variety of soursop (Indian banana) developed at Kentucky State University. It is distinguished by its round, very tasty fruit with a mango and pineapple flavor, high disease resistance, and reliable yields. It is fully hardy (USDA Zone 5) and suitable even for regions with cooler summers.
  • Key Features and Cultivation:
  •     Fruit: Medium-sized, round, creamy texture, ripens early.
  •     Growth: Smaller tree, height approx. 3–5 m, suitable for smaller gardens
  •     Hardiness: High frost hardiness (down to -28°C)
  •     Pollination: Cross-pollinating—two different varieties must be planted for fruit production
  •     Habitat: Prefers a sunny to partially shaded location with well-drained, fertile soil.
  •     KSU Benson is valued for its ability to produce high yields (over 150 fruits per tree) and is considered one of the best varieties for early harvest. Young plants should be shaded; older ones require full sun
