- A type of persimmon (kaki) originating from Sev. America.
- Of all persimmon species, it is the most frost-resistant, growing even as far south as Canada.
- Tolerates winter temperatures down to -30°C. The fruits are smaller than the well-known kaki fruits (Japanese persimmon), are about 5 cm and taste similar to apricots.
- They ripen normally in our conditions.
- The soil should be neutral with enough nutrients and moisture.
- Although this persimmon is frost-resistant and can be grown in the Czech Republic, the young leaves will burn even in light frost.
- However, persimmons usually only germinate at the end of April and the beginning of May, so this is not too dangerous.
- The plant is dioecious, so a male and female individual is needed.
