  • A type of persimmon (kaki) originating from Sev. America. 
  • Of all persimmon species, it is the most frost-resistant, growing even as far south as Canada. 
  • Tolerates winter temperatures down to -30°C. The fruits are smaller than the well-known kaki fruits (Japanese persimmon), are about 5 cm and taste similar to apricots. 
  • They ripen normally in our conditions. 
  • The soil should be neutral with enough nutrients and moisture. 
  • Although this persimmon is frost-resistant and can be grown in the Czech Republic, the young leaves will burn even in light frost. 
  • However, persimmons usually only germinate at the end of April and the beginning of May, so this is not too dangerous. 
  • The plant is dioecious, so a male and female individual is needed.
