- Eucalyptus gunnii ssp. divaricata, also known as "Blue Ice Cider Gum" or "Miena Cider Gum," is a subspecies of Gun's eucalyptus (Eucalyptus gunnii) endemic to Tasmania. It is an evergreen tree that can grow up to 20 meters tall, but with proper pruning, it can be kept smaller, which is possible even at an advanced age. It has dark blue leaves and bark with white spots, giving it an interesting appearance.
- Cultivation:
- Sunny and dry location: It thrives best in a sunny and dry location, but can also cope with slightly damp soil.
- Watering: Water regularly, but not excessively, so that the plant does not become waterlogged.
- Frost resistance: Moderately frost resistant to -15 °C, so it is advisable to protect it from severe frosts, for example by moving it to a cool room in winter.
- Soil: Thrives in all types of soil.
- Appearance:
- Leaves: Dark blue, elliptical, can also be green, depending on genetics.
- Bark: The bark is gray-green in color, but can also take on other colors throughout the year.
- Flowers: White flowers bloom in summer or fall.
- Additional information: Folk use: Traditionally used to treat respiratory diseases and as a disinfectant.
-
- Growing from seeds: Stratification before sowing and year-round sowing (ideally from January to March) are recommended.
