  • The largest medlar fruits, the size of Macrocarpa fruits, can have a diameter of 6 cm. The fruit is delicious. The tree habit is compact and haphazard, with new branches growing at unusual angles.
  • The medlar has been cultivated in Europe for thousands of years. The unusual round fruits are collected in autumn, after the first frosts. When picked, the fruits are too hard to eat immediately. 
  • If left to mature for a few weeks in a cool, lighted place, they go through a process called "bletting" and become soft, spiced and very rich. Enjoy the taste of cinnamon applesauce with a scoop.
