Japanese plum Kometa is a partially self-pollinating variety of Japanese plums suitable for warmer regions. The fruits ripen in late July.
  • They are medium-sized, spherical, the basic color is yellow, the entire fruit is covered with a red cheek.
  • The flesh is dark yellow, medium firm, aromatic, easily separable from the stone.
  • The variety is highly resistant to diseases, but more susceptible to spring frosts.
  • a suitable pollinator is, for example, the Japanese plum Najdena.
  • Planting: The most suitable time for planting plums is autumn, it can also be planted in spring.
  • However, when planting in spring, the trees lose their winter moisture, so we must pay attention to watering the trees more frequently. Container trees can be planted throughout the year.
  • When planting, we proceed as follows: dig a hole wide enough to accommodate the roots and deep enough so that the grafting site of the variety is above ground after planting.
  • Cover the roots with fine soil and water them with plenty of water.
  • Make a watering tray around the tree so that the water does not drain away, wrap the trunk with a suitable bite guard and attach the tree to a stake so that it does not topple over in the wind. In the following year, it is necessary to fertilize the trees with nitrogen fertilizers during germination, after flowering and after the fruit falls in June.
  • This fertilization contributes to the faster development of the trees and improves their health. Cererit, for example, is used for this fertilization.
  • Pruning: It is important to trim the trees after planting by removing excess shoots, shorten the remaining shoots by 1/3 so that the central shoot exceeds the side shoots.
  • Protection: Against pests in stone fruits against the plum sawfly at the end of flowering Calipso or Mospilan at the time of the plums turning blue.
  • Against aphids, use Pirimor according to the instructions in the event of an attack throughout the year.
