  • 'Favorite' Pomegranate – a pomegranate variety grown primarily for its increased frost resistance and compact growth habit.
  • Literature and nursery catalogs indicate its origin in southern Russia, where more hardy types were selected for colder conditions.
  • In our gardens, it typically grows as a multi-stemmed shrub with finely thorny branches; with regular pruning, it maintains a height of about 1.2–2 m and a similar width.
  • The leaves are glossy green, turning yellow in the fall and falling off.
  • From June to August, bell-shaped to tubular flowers appear in shades of orange to orange-red.
  • The fruits are generally smaller than those of heat-loving commercial varieties, approximately 5–7 cm in diameter, with a refreshing sweet-and-sour taste.
  • The edible part consists of juicy arils, which are rich in vitamin C and various polyphenols, and are mainly used in fresh salads, yogurts, juices, or syrups.
  • The variety is self-pollinating, but fruit set is often increased when grown alongside another pomegranate variety.
