Asimina is a deciduous tree native to the east coast of North America. The tree has a regular, oval-shaped crown and is very decorative throughout the growing season. This little-known fruit tree can be grown in our climate, and the quality of its fruit is comparable to that of the finest tropical fruits. The fruit is light green, spherical to oval, often elongated to bean-shaped, weighing 50-400 g. The flesh of the fruit has a creamy consistency and, after removing the large, inedible seeds, is eaten with a spoon. The taste is reminiscent of a mixture of banana, pineapple, and mango. It contains large amounts of vitamins, fiber, iron, and calcium.
Asimina Mango is a variety that grows more vigorously than other Asimina cultivars. It has larger, delicious fruits. It bears fruit early and regularly. Asimina Mango is a cross-pollinated variety, so it is necessary to plant it with another variety of asimina. It is harvested from the beginning of October.
GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
Asimina is a very adaptable tree that thrives best in moist, humus- and nutrient-rich soils. During dormancy, it can withstand frosts of -22°C. Budding is late, so it escapes late spring frosts. The tree is not demanding in terms of pruning. Grafted cultivars form a regular crown with fruitful wood. We recommend only moderate pruning. It is pleasing to note that no diseases or pests have been observed to date. Important note: When planting, the root ball must not be disturbed and the taproot must not be exposed under any circumstances.
Otherwise, the plant may die!!! After unpacking, place the plant outdoors in partial shade and, once it has shed all its leaves, plant it in its final location. It is important to plant the plant in autumn or early spring during dormancy!!!
