Diospyros x hybrida 'Pamjať Pasenkova'
(Czech: tomel) is a highly resistant hybrid variety created by crossing Japanese persimmon (Diospyros kaki) and American persimmon (Diospyros virginiana). This variety was bred with the aim of combining the excellent taste of Asian persimmons with the frost resistance of American species.
Main characteristics:
Origin and breeding: One of the direct parents of this variety is the well-known hybrid 'Rossijanka'.
Frost resistance: Thanks to its hybrid origin, it is highly resistant to low temperatures, which allows it to be grown year-round in open soil even in the climatic conditions of Central Europe.
Fruit: It belongs to the so-called "hardy persimmons" (frost-resistant tomelos). The fruit is valued for its quality and sweet taste when ripe.
Habitat: It requires a sunny and warm location, ideally protected from strong winds (e.g., near the south wall of a building).
Soil: Prefers nutritious, well-drained soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0–6.5).
Availability: In Czech specialized nurseries, this variety is usually offered grafted onto Diospyros lotus or Diospyros virginiana rootstocks for better adaptation to local soil conditions.
