Solanka is originally a Czech late summer variety. It comes from Solan in northern Bohemia (it was also named after this village). It is perhaps the most famous and still popular summer buttercream.
Solanki are massive trees that grow very luxuriantly and form beautiful large crowns. They are usually vital and healthy just from the look. They are resistant to frost and do not suffer from scabs. It can easily stand up even in higher positions.
Pears are elongated in shape, first green and later a very pleasant yellow color (they can be eaten with the eyes ). Their taste is pleasant, sweet and spicy. Ripe fruits are very juicy. They are already combed from the tree at the beginning or around the middle of August (they should still be mostly green in color). After brushing, they quickly turn yellow and are ready to eat. However, they can also be left to turn yellow on the tree and harvested straight into the mouth (however, with the risk that many of them will fall off earlier or be "harvested" by wasps).
Solanka is well pollinated by Charneuská, Hardy or Boscova varieties, for example. At least in the old pomologies, these varieties are listed as likely pollinators.
